William David “Dave” Ransom Jr., 72, of Altoona, passed away Monday. He was born and raised in Chambersburg, son of the late William David Ransom Sr. and Lucy McGill Ransom.
Dave was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, known for his dry humor, strength, generosity and dedication to family.
He was a graduate of Chambersburg Area High School, Class of 1971, where he excelled in baseball and track and field, earning a scholarship to Shippensburg University.
He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and later worked in computer sales before returning to Pennsylvania.
Prior to retirement, he served as a civil service employee and retired from the Hollidaysburg Post Office.
Dave is survived by his wife, LaJune Rogers Ransom, of Altoona; his daughter, Shayna Christensen, of Medford, Ore.; his stepsons, Brett and Alec Rogers, of Altoona; his siblings: Gregory Ransom, Betty Ransom Farrell, Donna Ransom Glover, Regina Ransom Cheatom and Robert Ransom. There are eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded by his brother, Michael Sylvester Ransom.
A memorial service and Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, at Unity in Christ in Church, 4301 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg, Pa.
